Aged 7 I was given a book entitled 'Around the World in Colour'. What a revelation and seminal moment for me. Full of decorative traditional costumes, national flags, exotic and exciting landscapes, exuberant flora and fauna...I was hooked and determined to see it all.
Around the same time the nature table at junior school nurtured an everlasting appreciation and fascination with natural form. I have had the good fortune to combine work and travel, participating in exchange programmes and providing workshops in the USA, UK and Spain. My mind is a kaleidoscopic mix of images and ideas constantly developing and merging, inspired by my travels. From the riotous colours of India, Asia, Mexico and South America to the kitsch fairgrounds of British seaside towns...all recorded and developed in my numerous sketchbooks. In addition to Open studio events, exhibitions and workshops, I design and make large-scale ceramic murals from my studio in Chichester, West Sussex. |
